FoE urges Obama to push for fair deal in Copenhagen

FoE urges Obama to push for fair deal in Copenhagen
Friends of the Earth (FoE) is calling on Barack Obama to lead the way forward in Copenhagen as the crucial climate change summit unfolds.

The call comes as the US president makes his way to Norway to pick up his Nobel Peace Prize.

FoE executive director Andy Atkins explained that Mr Obama could prove to be a highly influential figure at the potentially world-changing conference.

"By leading global action on climate change, Barack Obama can fill the shoes of the great figures who've been awarded the Nobel Peace prize before," he said.

"Obama should put his weight behind getting a strong and fair international climate agreement in Copenhagen and put an end to the US blocking progress in the climate talks.

According to reports, Mr Obama is planning to attend the conference himself in the Danish capital at the end of next week.

Talks are scheduled to continue until December 18th.
