FiTs 'expensive way of promoting renewable energy'

FiTs 'expensive way of promoting renewable energy'
Feed-in Tariffs (FiTs) are likely to be stopped, as they are a "very expensive" method of promoting renewable energy and will never become competitive in the UK, one industry expert has claimed.

Neil McNiven, from Renewable Energy UK, said the FiTs are likely to lead to a short term growth in solar photovoltaic installations, but the initiatives will "probably be stopped".

However, Mr McNiven predicted that solar-water heating is likely to increase, as this can be "price competitive with fossil fuels".

Green groups in the UK are currently awaiting the results of the coalition's spending review to see if the proposed Renewable Heat Incentive will go ahead. Currently just one percent of the UK's thermal energy comes from renewable sources.

"In the south of USA, north Africa, southern Europe, Australia, and other very sunny locations, there will be massive growth in solar PV (and solar water heating), probably with electricity generated exported to less sunny countries like [those in] northern Europe," he added.  ADNFCR-1235-ID-800113434-ADNFCR

WE are using solar heating for our home as a common. And in Southern region we do not pay to heat to water during winter time also, for shower. We start to use it to heat houses also...
Infacy, by heating water in spain or morocco deserts and pumping it to england can be competitive & environmental friendly.
