Environmental opportunities arising abroad

Environmental opportunities arising abroad
A report has highlighted the increasing number of overseas opportunities available to UK companies in the environmental sector.

The study, entitled Market opportunities in environmental goods and services, renewable energy, carbon finance and carbon abatement technologies, was compiled by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI).

It found that in the majority of countries studied, there was an equal amount of opportunities in areas such as water, waste and environmental consultancy as in the UK.

More specifically, China had opportunities in low carbon energy generation capacity, renewable energy and carbon finance, while the US had opportunities in generation technologies.

UK companies should look to Brazil for environmental consultancy and waste management opportunities, according to the study, while Turkey had offerings in water and waste water treatment.

Andrew Cahn, UKTI chief executive, said: "In these tough times it is vital we look for where our expertise is needed and provide support for UK companies to seize these opportunities."

Today, more than 130 big investors from across the globe teamed up to urge more action on climate change by international governments.
