Energy efficiency could save businesses money

Energy efficiency could save businesses money
Experts have urged businesses to adopt greener practices as it could save firms money.

Figures released by the Carbon Trust have shown that poor energy efficiency costs businesses up to £2 billion every year.

In Manchester alone, the city produces more than 3.3 million tonnes of carbon dioxide a year and nearly half of that is from businesses.

Amanda James, a spokeswoman for Business In The Community, which specialises in environmental advice for firms, told the Manchester Evening News: "Steps toward a low carbon business can also provide a wealth of opportunities, from extensive cost saving to tapping new markets and product development opportunities."

She added that businesses need to reduce their emissions "by 60 percent" to achieve national carbon dioxide emissions targets.

The Carbon Trust was set up by the government in 2001 to help organisations reduce their carbon emissions and develop low carbon technologies.ADNFCR-1235-ID-18590941-ADNFCR
