Economy needs to become low carbon, business group advises
The government's ambitious carbon-emission cutting targets means the economy needs to "change completely", a coalition of environmental and business bodies has said.
According to the Aldersgate Group, the UK's attitude towards green energy and business opportunities within the sector is evolving.
The quicker the transition occurs, the greater the benefits for companies looking to create low carbon opportunities and gain more skills.
Andrew Raingold, deputy director of the Aldersgate Group, said: "There are short-term opportunities in a low carbon economy.
"There's two ways of looking at it, in skills in particular it's to do with resource efficiency so there's a real competitive advantage for all businesses to be efficient in the resources they use. Training the workforce to be resource efficient can be a very quick win-win."
Previous research from the Institute for Public Policy Research showed that the UK's workforce needs to be equipped with the correct skills to work with low carbon initiatives.
Organisations need to be aware of their contribution towards climate change and how they can work to reduce their carbon footprint.
