'Drive less and save more'

'Drive less and save more'
The most important thing when conserving energy for motorists is to drive less, it has been claimed.

Among the tips for drivers to reduce their environmental impact offered by Jay Nagely, publisher of Clean Green Cars, , is the advice to use cars less.

Mr Nagley highlighted a variety of ways in which drivers can boost their fuel economy; for example, he claimed that people should "drive smoothly" by not accelerating too hard and not breaking too suddenly.

In addition he said: "Make sure your tyres are inflated correctly; a lot of people don't do this and that makes quite a big difference to fuel economy.

"Obviously, the most important thing is to drive less."

According to the AA, the cost of motoring has increased by 11 per cent over the past year. Similarly, the cost of driving a 4x4 has doubled.

This gives substance to Mr Nagley's claim that a recent surge in greener driving may be prompted by financial concerns.
