Details of offshore windfarm events unveiled
The Crown Estate is holding a series of windfarm marketplace events during 2010 to source skilled workers for three low carbon projects.

According to the organisation, the supply chain events are to be held in Aberdeen, Inverness and Glasgow during January and February and have been set up to showcase opportunities within the renewable energy sector.

Skilled workers, components, political and environmental settings and infrastructure are all important in impacting the outcome of the project.

The Crown Estate said: "This is a huge opportunity for the regions and businesses of the UK to play a role in providing new jobs, inward investment and to ensure that we remain the world leader in offshore wind deployment.

It added: "The anticipated scope of growth is akin to the oil and gas service industry."

Previous research by the British Wind Energy Association revealed that the number of jobs in the UK wind industry will have almost reached 57,000 by 2020.

The employment figure is much higher than the 5,000 seen in the sector during 2008.
