Demand for thermal equipment rising
Thermal imaging equipment is becoming increasingly sought after in the building inspection industry, according to one provider.
Thermal imaging equipment that can spot heat leakage is becoming increasingly popular in the building inspection industry, according to an instrumentation company.
The cameras, which produce coloured images detailing temperatures, are useful to determine where heat loss is occurring and has been used by councils to identify homes that most urgently need insulation.
Ashtead Technology, which provides rental equipment, told the Engineer Live that it had seen demand for thermal imaging equipment rise recently.
Daniel Bobker, managing director of Thermal Inspections, which is an Ashtead client, said: "We think this growth is due to several factors; businesses looking to save costs through predictive maintenance, the increased requirement on local authorities to meet energy-saving legislation on their properties by preventing heat loss and people have a greater understanding of energy conservation in general."
Broadland District Council recently spent £30,000 on hiring an aeroplane to take thermal images from the sky.
The images allowed it to find properties that were loosing high levels of heat, as well as buildings where low-income families were cutting back on heating.http://www.ashtead-technology.com/uk/
