Cycling holidays are a low carbon travel option

Cycling holidays are a low carbon travel option
Cycling holidays are gaining in popularity, thanks in part to a growing interest in domestic tourism, according to Cycle Active.

Chris Ford, managing director of the cycle holiday and mountain bike training company, stated that as people are becoming more concerned about the environmental and financial costs of air travel, there has been renewed interest in biking holidays in the UK.

He added that this year, the firm has observed a 25 per cent increase in bookings, with the coast-to-coast cycle route across England's Lake District and the north Pennines named as the most popular.

"It's a perfect challenge ride to do over three days because people can fit it into a long weekend, and it's very, very scenic," he said. "Over 10,000 people a year ride coast to coast and it's the most popular by far."

Earlier this week, John Buckley, the managing director of Carbon Footprint, claimed that although cycling and walking are by far the most eco-friendly means of transportation, trains are another "carbon friendly" way to travel, particularly when compared with cars or planes.ADNFCR-1235-ID-18568443-ADNFCR
