CHP awards handed out

CHP awards handed out
Ener-G, Baxi and the Victoria and Albert (V&A) museum were the winners on a night that celebrated the combined heat and power industry this week.

The Combined Heat and Power Association held its annual awards night for the sector at the V&A, which shares a trigeneration CHP system with the Natural History Museum (NHM) across the road.

Working with Vital Energy, the NHM facility produces 1,800 kilowatts (KW) of electricity, features a waste-heat boiler to capture energy in the flue gasses and has two absorption chillers to provide 705KW of cooling power.

While the equipment was showcased in keeping members of the CHPA at a comfortable temperature, other winners were announced.

Tesco was given the Champion Award for "significant investment in CHP and trigeneration and its commitment to deploying both proven and innovative technologies across its stores".

The Sustainable Development Award was handed to a trigeneration partnership between Ener-G and the Heart of England NHS Foundation.

Micro-CHP maker Baxi, which will have its domestic unit distributed through British Gas, was given the Innovation Award.

Michael King was recognised for his "commitment and dedication to developing CHP and community heating" with the President's Award for Services to CHP.

The Community Award went to Sustain, whose consultant Katie Gent was presented with the President's Award for Emerging Talent.
