Century for Carbon Trust Standard
Having launched one year ago, the Carbon Trust has given its Standard Company status to 100 firms.
HSBC became the 100th commercial enterprise to receive the seal of approval, which recognises its commitment to reducing carbon emissions.
In the 12 months since the scheme began, more than 600,000 tonnes of carbon have been cut by the 100 businesses.
They have also saved more than £50 million between them, illustrating the financial benefits of being environmentally-friendly.
Sean O'Sullivan, HSBC's chief technology and services officer, commented: "We became the first major bank to go carbon neutral in 2005. We're now delighted to have cut our carbon by another 10 percent and achieved the Carbon Trust Standard, thanks to a lot of hard work from people at all levels of our company.
"Reducing carbon emissions is part of our approach to corporate sustainability but also produces considerable savings that feed through to our bottom line."
The Carbon Trust has predicted that the number of firms achieving Standard Company status will double in the next year.http://www.carbontrust.co.uk/News/presscentre/100-Carbon-...
