CBI: Uncertainty surrounds low carbon investments
The UK is not yet attracting the level of investment required to build the infrastructure needed to support the low carbon economy, the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) has claimed.

In a new report, entitled Risky Business: Investing in the UK's Low-Carbon Infrastructure, the CBI said currently there is much uncertainty as to whether £150 billion of private needed for the country's power network will be found.

Katja Hall, chief policy director for the CBI, said it is essential the government clarifies its policy with regard to the low carbon future.

The Electricity Market Reform was described as being a "positive start", however, Ms Hall stressed: "It is particularly important that the planning system delivers timely decisions and there are no more sudden policy shifts as we saw with the Carbon Reduction Commitment."

Among the calls being made to the government from the CBI are to make the Green Deal appealing for investors, implementing a new planning system and allowing the Green Investment Bank to issue government bonds as soon as possible.

Murray Birt, principal energy policy adviser at the CBI, also recently stressed the importance of British businesses cashing in on the opportunities presented by the low carbon economy, by making components for green technologies.  ADNFCR-1235-ID-800512836-ADNFCR
