CBI: Low carbon economy 'opportunity' for SMEs
The low carbon economy presents many opportunities for small business to grow, according to the Confederation of British Industry (CBI).

Speaking at an event held in conjunction with Lloyds banking group, the CBI said small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) have a vital role to play in ensuring the UK is at the forefront of the low carbon economy.

Dr Neil Bentley, CBI director for business environment, said: "SMEs will be the engine of the UK's economic recovery and the low carbon sector presents many exciting new opportunities for growth."

Lloyds also vowed to help its business customers "understand the opportunities and challenges posed by the sustainability agenda".

However, research conducted by Lloyds TSB Commercial in October found that many small businesses are being deterred from investing in green improvements because of the continuing effects of the economic downturn.

More than 500 small firms took part in the poll, with 30 percent stating they had shelved plans for energy-efficient improvements because of the recession.

Around 25 percent said a lack of clarity surrounding government policy was behind their decision to delay.  ADNFCR-1235-ID-800235269-ADNFCR
