Carbon Trust releases green guide for SMEs

Carbon Trust releases green guide for SMEs
The Carbon Trust has launched a new guide for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) aimed at helping them access the £112 billion market for green goods and services.

Green Your Business for Growth contains information on how small firms can seek out expansion opportunities, boost their competitive advantages and devise a green growth strategy, all while cutting their environmental impact.

To date, the Carbon Trust said it has saved 29.5 million tonnes of CO2 and £2.6 billion in energy costs for its customers.

Ian Gibson, director of delivery programmes at the Carbon Trust, said: "As larger firms look to reduce carbon in their supply chains, SMEs that don’t act now could get cut out in favour of greener competitors."

Research conducted recently by the trust revealed around half of SMEs feel threatened by the growth within the low carbon economy.

Less than 29 percent thought that they would see a financial return from the green economy, while almost half believed it would require them to hold more capital.

However, Mr Gibson warned those who don't prepare for the shift "risk losing out". ADNFCR-1235-ID-800489334-ADNFCR
