Businesses need to choose right carbon metric
Companies must fully understand the goals of their corporate social responsibility (CSR) policies and choose the most appropriate carbon metric to chart success, one consultancy has said.
JMP Consultants explained at the recent Business Travel Show that to achieve success in reducing carbon emissions and achieving environmental goals, businesses must invest time and thought into any action plans.
Jonathan Green, an associate from JMP's carbon reduction team, added that choosing the right carbon calculator is also an important business consideration.
"There are lots of carbon calculators out there and there's lots of different ways to calculate carbon. You need to choose the right type of carbon metric to deliver your specific output," he said.
Businesses also need to establish what exactly they are measuring for and make "the appropriate business decision".
"You need to understand that very strategically to see why the CSR and environmental carbon agenda is important to the business. You will then have a landscape to operate and support senior officials to drag the agenda through your business," Mr Green concluded.
Figures from the Fourth Annual ACTE KDS Survey have revealed that 61 percent of firms have a CSR charter, a further 28 percent of corporate travel departments are required to report to senior management on carbon emissions. http://csr.businesstravelshow.co.uk/
