Businesses have 50 days left to sign up to CRC
Businesses are being reminded that they have just 50 days left to sign up to the Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme (CRC).
All large public and private sector organisations must register with the Environment Agency before September 30th.
Currently 1,229 of around 5,000 organisations that are required to register have done so.
Greg Barker, energy and climate change minister, has advised businesses to register before the deadline.
"I understand the original complexity of the scheme may have deterred some organisations and I want to hear suggestions as to how we can make the scheme simpler in the future," he added.
Launched in April 2010, the CRC aims to cut the UK's carbon emissions and according to the government could save those involved £1 billion per year by 2020 through energy and cost savings.
Last month, the Carbon Trust said that "there was no reason to expect" that the coalition government would make any changes to the CRC now that the scheme is "firmly in the implementation phase".
