Business IT can help reduce CO2 emissions

Business IT can help reduce CO2 emissions
UK businesses can help to contribute to creating a low carbon economy by improving the efficiency of their IT systems.

Climate Group, a non-profit organisation that works to promote efforts to combat climate change in business and government, has commented on the effective measures businesses can take to cut their costs as well as their environmental impact.

Molly Webb, ICT project manager for the organisation, explained that in order to make businesses interested in attempting to combat climate change, they must be convinced that they can profit from it.

In terms of practicalities, companies can improve energy efficiency and power management, as well as creating best practice policies and using low emissions products such as video conferencing.

"Climate change can present business opportunities that are good for the planet and good for their bottom line," she remarked.

A study conducted by the Climate Group and the Global e-Sustainability Initiative indicated that businesses could reduce annual man-made global emissions by 15 per cent by 2020.
