Brown calls for green driving habits
UK prime minister Gordon Brown has called on motorists to drive eco cars and prepare for environmentally-friendly driving tests.

As part of the drive to improve vehicles' fuel efficiency by 60 per cent, the prime minister has urged drivers to switch to driving electric or hybrid cars, according to the Telegraph.

The news provider observes that Mr Brown wants all new cars sold in the UK to be electric or hybrid and producing under 100g of CO2 per km by 2020.

In addition, the UK premiere states that from September all new drivers will be required to pass practical "green driving" tests.

Speaking at the G8 summit in Japan, Mr Brown said: "I genuinely think that this new technology - hybrids and so on - [can be] adopted widely to the benefit of the ordinary family, to change the family car and make it far more energy efficient."

The G8 summit has had a green driving theme so far, with all delegates being transported around Japan in low carbon cars, such as electric vehicles, hybrids and hydrogen fuel cell models.
