Biomass plant plans resubmitted

Biomass plant plans resubmitted
Plans for a renewable energy plant have been modified and resubmitted after the original designs were narrowly refused planning permission.

Eco2, which plans to build a 40MW biomass plant at Sleaford has lowered the height of the planned facility following a narrow 18 to 16 vote defeat mainly on grounds of visual impact.

The £80 million Sleaford Renewable Energy Plant will burn straw for energy if either the new plans are accepted or an appeal against the old rejection is successful.

Eco2 chief executive David Williams said: "We take the responsibility of working with the local community very seriously and have directly addressed the issues raised. We are confident we have achieved this by lowering the profile of the plant, together with 10,000 metres squared of trees and shrubs, and landscaping to further screen the plant from view."

He added that renewable energy was important to combat climate change.

According to the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory reform, the government has set a target of ten per cent of electricity in the UK coming from renewable sources by 2010.
