Big name firms pledge to cut carbon emissions
A number of big London businesses have signed up to be founding members of a plan to cut carbon emissions by three million tones before 2010.

The Green500 scheme will encourage organisations based in the capital to reduce their carbon footprint by helping them assess their impact on climate change as well as assisting them in devising a plan to reduce it.

At the same time, signing up to the initiative requires businesses to commit to publishing their carbon emission-cutting results on an annual basis, with awards available for successful firms.

Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone, said: "The London green organisations programme will motivate, support and reward organisations to reduce their carbon footprint."

"This is a world first, and places London at the forefront of government and business working together to cut carbon emissions," he added.

Alongside the new scheme, a Better Buildings Partnership was also launched to encourage commercial landlords in London to reduce the carbon impact of their properties.ADNFCR-1235-ID-18390202-ADNFCR
