OUR GOALS... Based in Swansea, Wales. Our registered charity Swansea Canal Society has long term aims to restore the Swansea Canal to a navigable standard and short term goals to get the Swansea Canal more active. INCREASING AWARENESS... We are increasing the local & nationwide awareness of the Swansea Canal which in turn attracts more active users to both the Canal; it's towpath; it's waters and surrounding greenery. RECENT IMPROVEMENT... Recent years have seen more networking and an increased emotional response especially by those whom have a dircet influence on the Canal's up-keep and it's future. WHO BENEFITS? On the whole, the Swansea Canal Society's achievements benefit the Canal's surrounding flora and fauna. CURRENT PROJECTS... You can get more current information on our progress & projects from our website http://www.SwanseaCanalSociety.com However as of May 2010... - we're currently working with Sustrans on improving the Cycle Path route through (instead of around) Clydach's ex-Council yard - also linked with the above project, we're pushing to restore the Clydach's Canal Lock near the Mond Nickel Works. - Nearby to the above projects, we're about to re-open and staff (via Volunteers) Clydach's Coed Gwilym Park Museum / Canal-Side Hut. - Further up the valley at Pontardawe, we (our members) have been instrumental in our contribution toward Neath Port Talbot's 'Pontardawe Regenartion' scheme - so far it appears that there will be a focus toward establishing Pontardawe as a Canal-Side Town as opposed to the Steel Bridge previously proposed by the Council. There are many more projects we are involved and need help & assistance with so please get in touch, we'd love to hear from you and help you where possible.
