Top 20 Innovators in UK

In a specialist supplement on green technology published in The Times newspaper today, Peterborough Renewable Energy Ltd (PREL) has been recognised as one of the leading pioneers in renewables technology, after being listed amongst the Top 20 Innovative Companies in the waste management sector.

The Peterborough Company - who are challenging conventional methods of waste management to make the sector more sustainable - are delighted that their plans are being recognised as a cutting-edge and innovative solution to landfill nationwide.

Since its inception in 2002, PREL has combined an expertise in materials with a passion for the environment to set about finding an alternative to landfill that gives better carbon reduction benefits and more added-value than traditional incineration - the PREL Energy Park concept does just that.

The three stage PREL Energy Park process, which has been labeled as ‘a magic wand solution,’ by environmentalists, utilises every element of the waste to create energy and value-added products, such as building blocks, glass and roofing tiles. With PREL’s technology, the waste of today can really build the houses of tomorrow.

The tried and tested technology combines mechanical recycling, gasification of any biomass fraction and plasma melting, to allow the Energy Park to realise zero waste and landfill and deliver 100% recycling. Just one plant can save 600,000 tonnes of CO2 per year and create enough renewable energy to power 60,000 homes.

Speaking today Chris Williams, Managing Director said that: “We are delighted to have been recognised as one of the top 20 innovators in our sector nationwide.

“We have long recognised waste as a resource, and by separating and breaking it down we are able to not only extract higher-value goods, but also create renewable energy to power homes.
“Our vision and technology seek to reduce carbon emissions, whilst tackling the problem of landfill in the UK, making this country a better place for us all to live.”
