Green Deal pre-registration with NAPIT

The 2011 Energy Act includes provisions for the new 'Green Deal', which intends to reduce carbon emissions cost-effectively by revolutionising the energy efficiency of British properties.

The new innovative Green Deal financial mechanism eliminates the need to pay upfront for energy efficiency measures and instead provides reassurances that the cost of the measures should be covered by savings on the electricity bill.

At a local level, the Green Deal will enable many households and businesses to improve the energy efficiency of their properties so less energy is consumed and less money is wasted.

Part of the development of the Green Deal is the approval of advisors and installers by UKAS accredited certification bodies, and an intention to align the requirements with Competent Person Schemes and the Microgeneration Certification Scheme where these overlap.

NAPIT has applied for UKAS accreditation for Green Deal activities; the accreditation process itself is a pilot scheme and will run in parallel to the continuing development of standards and requirements for advisors and installers.

Installers looking to take advantage of the opportunities presented by the Governments forthcoming Green Deal can pre-register their interest with NAPIT by visiting their stand at Ecobuild on the 20th–22nd March at London ExCel
