Global Water Leakage Summit 2011

Start Date:28 Jun 11 End Date:29 Jun 11

How can we optimize the water distribution system to have more efficient networks and to drive leakage down further?
We cannot hope to get rid of leakage altogether, but what a company does to minimise leakage and the associated costs continues to be a major factor in day to day operational efficiency as well as affecting the overall strategy of water companies globally.

Individual water utilities, governments, regulatory and environmental bodies still – quite rightly – have concerns about high levels of leakage. The basic principles of understanding, monitoring and controlling leakage are well established, and have not changed significantly. But there are some recent innovations in leakage reduction strategies and leak detection technologies that help the practitioner to be aware of leakage more quickly and to find leaks more accurately. Together, these technologies will have a big impact on improving network performance and further driving down leakage.
Our world-class speciality conference – The Global Water Leakage Summit – will be back in June 2011 as part of our continuing and highly successful series of water management events. It will address all of these issues, with a particular focus this year on system optimization and improving network management, providing a one – stop shop for water industry representatives to discover first hand the advances in the technology for managing water networks more efficiently and for reducing leakage down to acceptable economic levels.

Fixing the cause (network management) rather than focusing on the problem (leakage)
Leakage is a failure in the product rather than a root cause. The real issue is the management and monitoring of the network, which varies hugely in approaches and capabilities across the industry. How we choose to manage the network – both within zones and in the system as a whole – has a huge influence on managing leakage.

If you are managing your network correctly, you are managing leakage correctly and you will get a better end result, not just for the organisation in terms of its asset value and resilience, but also in terms of the customer in respect of the level of service they receive. This summit will examine best practice approaches to monitoring and managing the network and will provide many opportunities to learn from international organisations that have already reaped the benefits.

Understanding technologies for leakage management – what information do they provide and what impact do they have on the overall system?
The 2011 summit will feature a range of innovative technologies for smart networks, open zone monitoring, leakage monitoring, leak location and leak repair. Technologies will be assessed in terms of effectiveness and efficiency of not only finding and fixing leaks but also as an aid to asset management and rehabilitation – and the overall impact on water loss management.

Speakers at the 2011 summit will be sharing with delegates their first hand knowledge and information on the strategy behind their decisions, technology choices and cost options. Case studies of leakage reduction strategies will describe challenges and successes as well as the costs and benefits, and will introduce methodologies and models and for reducing leakage and calculating economic levels of leakage.

The significance of innovation in network management is also reflected in the 3 workshops we are holding this year. Topics to be covered include: advanced pressure management for greater reduction and savings; pump optimization for network efficiency and leakage reduction; advanced network data management and monitoring.
