Could fitting diesel particulate traps save the world?
Study finds particulate traps have potential to halt climate change, save millions of lives and tackle global food crisis
17 January 2012 - Diesel particulate traps have been chosen as one of fourteen highly cost-effective measures with the potential to provide substantial climate-saving benefits.
The study, published by Science just two weeks after the extension of London’s low emission zone (LEZ), says that the traps may be the answer to saving the planet, improving human health, reducing hydrology cycle disruption, and increasing agricultural yields.
The study considered diesel particle filters for road and off-road vehicles as part of a move to worldwide adoption of Euro 6 standards.
Echoing comments that Nigel Standley, CEO of GreenUrban Technologies, has been making for some time now, the study demonstrated the benefits of widespread adoption of low emissions zones.
Standley commented: “London’s low emission zone is leading the way in the UK for cleaning up our air quality. If implemented properly it will go some way to saving the 29,000 premature deaths in the UK attributable to poor air quality every year.”
“Now it’s time to think globally. With millions of dirty old diesel vehicles in operation across the world, something has to be done, and fast. It’s unrealistic to expect businesses to replace old fleets; this is a simple, cost-effective solution.”
GreenUrban Technologies’ EcoTrap reduces particulate output from diesel engine vehicles by over 95%, making them fully LEZ-compliant.
