Wood boiler installation
After discussing rising oil prices (12,000) per anum, we decided to look at an eco installation. We live in a large house using a 35 /50 kw oil boiler and Rayburn. We looked around at different options and finally decided to go with a wood boiler. We got different quotes but they were all in the 15-18K range.
We began to look around. We wanted to integrate the oil boiler as primary back up, this creates its own set of issues, when combining two separate systems, we opted for a low loss header system to neutralize any hydraulic differences between the two systems. Location of the boiler itself needed careful planning, we used a primary circuit combined with a 3-port valve to ensure return temperature remains constant at 55 degrees to ensure stratification within the accumulator tank. The boiler/accumulator/primary circuit has its own feed/expansion tank this must be exactly the same height as the existing, also 10% of the accumulator tank size must be allowed for when sizing. The installation went online in March. We disconnected the oil boiler from the system in May. We are now waiting for the RHI to com into force. We have our own log splitter and we have a transit van load of un-split logs delivered every two weeks at a cost of 20 pounds. We have save approximately 6400 pounds since March.
