Our client, an international offshore wind development company is currently recruiting for a cables project manager.

The role:
• Managing all the resources required to deliver both cable and submarine installation projects
• Compiling specification, transportation, installation, procurement, testing, strategies and contracts
• Working with the team to ensure project delivery
• Providing the project management focus across a number of projects
• Providing support to the project development team in identifying landing sites
• Managing all elements of submarine, associated land and cable projects
• Coordinating the quality, health and safety of projects
• Management of expert consultants
• Providing support to the marine geophysics and survey manager with regards to cable route design and engineering
• Providing assistance to the electrical engineer with the technical design requirements of cables and accessories
• Identifying and conducting pre-qualification assessments of cable and accessory manufacturers and installers
• Assessing installer's ITT responses and proposals
• Managing technical queries during the detailed design, protection and installation phases
• Managing the technical documentation requirements for cable procurement, test, commissioning and installation
• Liaising with other departments and suppliers to obtain information required by in-house and external designers and independent verification bodies
• Managing the assessment and rectification of defects as required
• Providing expert technical support at conferences and exhibitions as required
• Preparing ITTs and associated documents including procedures, specifications and scopes of work
• Defining, scoping and managing strategic operation, maintenance and repair solutions as necessary
• Working with other parts of the project team to ensure the efficient implementation of project interfaces (foundations, electrical system design, SCADA, control systems, operation and maintenance, consents compliance, etc)
• Undertaking visits to manufacturing facilities, vessels and construction sites for inspection, test, approval and progress meetings
• Undertaking both in-house and external expert presentations as required
• Providing business development support as required within the offshore team

The person
This role would suit a person who has substantial experience of submarine and land cables, cable handling techniques and associated equipment. A professional qualification, knowledge of the offshore renewable energy industry or the general offshore sector, whilst not essential, would be strongly advantageous.

The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate that they have the following qualities:
• Experience of managing/engineering a submarine cable project from planning through to quality control, procurement, installation, testing and commissioning, maintenance, repair and reporting
• Knowledge of the different cable types that are commonly used in the offshore renewable energy sector
• Knowledge of jointing techniques together with testing and commissioning requirements
• Knowledge of the risks that need to be considered when planning a cable project
• Substantial knowledge of cables and their handling requirements and limitations
• Substantial knowledge of different cable lay techniques and equipment and their optimum selection
• Substantial knowledge of shore end landing and "J" tube hauling techniques
• The ability to work as a member of a team and to react positively to the varying challenges of projects
• The ability to "hit the ground running" and work under the pressure of tight time scales
• To provide the excellent project management and technical skills required to undertake the complexity of needs to ensure whole project delivery: on time, on budget and to the required quality standards
• Excellent organisational and communication skills including report writing, producing and undertaking presentations and the ability to effectively manage project engineers, contractors and consultants
• The ability to manage their own workload and meet demanding timescales across a number of potentially simultaneous projects
• Ability to use Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Willingness to work with other departments within RES so as to ensure whole project delivery
• Willingness to travel within UK, Europe and Worldwide, sometimes at short notice
• Ability to occasionally work for periods on site/out of the country
• This role may require visits to offshore installations, working at height and periods of time onboard ships
