Hammer & Tongue is a performance poetry organisation. It places poets in education, conducting workshops in schools, universities, community centres and prisons. It has a proven track record of generating issue based spoken word for campaigning purposes. Workshops have been carried out in collaboration with, Artists Project Earth, ClimateXchange and the Oxford University Centre for the Environment that focus on engaging people on issues relating to Climate Change. Other collaborations include events for organisations such as Students take Action for Community Change, Black History Month, Sustrans and The Childrens Society.
It has a proven track record of promoting the highest quality performance poets domestically whilst introducing audiences to many of the best poets on the international circuit. It is recognised as the UK’s leading slam poetry group – operating events across England. Slams are competitive and fun poetry events that draw on a variety of literary and musical traditions. Slam poetry is now revolutionising the UK live literature scene.
