Gina McCarthy, assistant administrator for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Air and Radiation, will be the keynote speaker during the plenary session of EUEC 2011, the USA's largest energy, utility and environment conference being held at the Phoenix Convention Center from January 31 to February 2, 2011. The U.S. EPA recently announced a two-year plan to set greenhouse gas (GHG) emission standards under the Clean Air Act for power plants and oil refineries. McCarthy will open the plenary session at 9:00 a.m. on January 31 with a presentation about the EPA's schedule to issue proposed regulations for power plants by July 26, 2011, and final regulations by May 26, 2012.

Representatives from the nation's top energy agencies and organizations will also make plenary presentations about crucial issues facing the industry. Plenary presenters following McCarthy will be Frank Prager, vice president of environmental policy and services, Xcel Energy; Bryan Hannegan, vice president of environment and renewables, EPRI; and Mitchell Baer, director of oil and gas analysis, U.S. DOE. Prabhu Dayal, EUEC chair, will close the plenary session starting at 11:30 a.m.
