Breakfast seminars show how to make the most of community energy schemes

Social housing professionals invited to community energy seminars
Community energy specialist ENER-G Switch 2 and Winckworth Sherwood, London’s leading housing law firm, are providing a series of three free breakfast CPD seminars on getting the most out of community heating schemes.

The breakfast events, taking place in Central London, are aimed at different registered providers and will be of interest to people in strategy, development and management teams. Gordon Callaway of Callaway Energy Consulting is one of the keynote speakers.

Although the sessions form a three-part set, each can be treated separately - to appeal to the interests of different housing team members.
The set will flow logically from the major strategy decisions prior to the development of community energy schemes; the web of inter-relationships between all the players; and the issues arising in the management phase - both best practice and problem solving.

An introduction to community energy schemes: Wednesday 19 June

This session will focus on:
• Different types of scheme driven by size and location
• The requirements of planners
• The London Plan
• Future-proofing
• The core energy services activities; what can the ESCO do

Development and construction issues: Tuesday 10 September

The second seminar will cover the issues arising at the development and construction stage including:

• The suite of agreements between landowners, developers, social landlords, heat suppliers and heat consumers
• Issues in the development agreement, master agreement, energy centre leases, heat supply agreement (developer to social landlord) and heat supply agreement to consumers
• The role of ESCOs
• The ideal commercial arrangements for service contracts with operating companies, billing services providers, maintenance service provider, metering and pre-payment service providers

Issues arising in the management phase: Tuesday 8 October

The third session will cover the operation and management issues such as: fuel purchase, billing, service charges renewals:

• Plugging the gaps for service contracts that were not negotiated during the development stage
• Fuel purchase
• The operations agreements that flow after construction such as the ONM agreement, the metering and billing, maintenance, pre-payment and residential liaison
• Operating within the requirements of the landlord and tenant legislation relating to provision and payment for services

The seminars will take place at Winckworth Sherward, close to London Bridge and next to Southwark Cathedral. Attendees will qualify for 1.5 CPD points by attending the free seminars.
