Swann-Morton case study

The Swann-Morton Group abides by a strict environmental policy whereby they are committed to conducting business activities in a way which minimises environmental impact and pollution. Swann-Morton continually scope out ways of improving their carbon cutting efforts and monitor their energy reducing advances through an environmental management system.

The customer
The prestigious Swann-Morton Group are world leaders in the in the manufacture of surgical blades, scalpels and handles. As a Sheffield-founded company in 1932, Swann-Morton have become globally recognised and indeed the first point of call for surgeons and healthcare professionals across the world.

The challenge
With strong moral roots for the city in which Swann-Morton originated, the group proudly fly the Made in Sheffield flag. Being widely known for their quality, precision, consistency and reliability, Swann-Morton were keen to effectively progress their carbon cutting efforts in a way which made a significant impact on their environmental management system whilst also living up to their own personal morals of British entrepreneurship and expertly recognised manufacturing capabilities.

As fellow members of Made in Sheffield, Swann-Morton approached Powerstar to see howtheir unique voltage optimisation system could help achieve their environmental targets in an efficient and timely manner.

The solution
Like Swann-Morton Powerstar are proud to promote their Made in Sheffield accreditation and are equally dignified of their UK manufactured status. From installing their voltage optimisation product into a broad range of commercial establishments over a 10 year period, Powerstar have gained a unique reputation whereby they do not compromise on quality and instead offer tailor made energy solutions to a varied market place.

Powerstar guaranteed Swann-Morton an 8.9% energy saving alongside their usual dedicated and ongoing support.

The Powerstar team work closely with each client in order to achieve the highest enery saving possible at their site. Importantly for Swann-Morton, the Powerstar system includes a human-machine interface which shows every detail of the sites electricity supply in real time thereby allowing Swann-Morton to be continually aware of their sites energy usage. This will allow Swann-Morton to further develop, maintain and achieve the objectives and targets set out in their Environmental Management System.

The business benefits
Since installation Swann-Morton have being experiencing energy savings of 9.9%, once again making the guaranteed savings of 8.9% substantially safe. The annual carbon output which has being saved at the Swann-Morton base equates to 102.5 tonnes equivalent with a 188,436 kWh saving or £11,559.
