CO2 Technology Centre Mongstad appoints new managing director
CO2 Technology Centre Mongstad (TCM), the world’s largest facility for testing and improving CO2 capture, has announced the appointment of a new managing director, Frank Ellingsen. Frank Ellingsen started in his new position on the 13th December 2012.
Ellingen’s responsibilities as managing director include developing TCM DA to be an effective test facility in order to continue to attract innovative technology vendors to the benefit of the global push to develop cost effective CCS technology.
Prior to joining TCM, Frank Ellingsen was employed in Grenland Group/Agility Group as senior vice president of Grenland Group Solutions, and most recently as vice president for concepts and studies. Prior to his time at Grenland Group, Ellingsen held different management positions at Norsk Hydro Oil & Gas.
Commenting on his appointment, Ellingsen said: "Joining TCM is very exciting especially at this stage in its development. My vision is that TCM shall be one of the tools able to prepare the ground for the full scale industrialisation of the global CCS market, by ensuring that its core infrastructure continues to provide a crucial testing area for CO2 capture technologies."
Since TCM was inaugurated in May 2012, its carbon capture test facilities have been used to test post combustion CO2 absorption processes, which are capable of capturing up to 90% of CO2 emissions from power plants and industrial sources.
To date, major technology brands have already registered their interest for the second phase of testing, in the Amine test unit, which begins in 2014, including Aker Solutions (which plans to continue its use of the plant), plus Hitachi, Mitsubishi and Siemens.
Frank Ellingsen holds a masters in physics from the University of Oslo.
