2nd Shanghai International New Energy Vehicle Summit 2011

Start Date:17 Oct 11 End Date:18 Oct 11

Five Chinese ministries determined that China would become a strong nation of new energy vehicle by 2020. On June 22, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China announced on its official website that compiling work of the energy conservation and new energy vehicle industry development planning (2011–2020) had almost been completed. Sources said that the planning would come into effect in the second half of 2011. It indicates a new round of upsurge will be seen in China's new energy vehicle industry.

The overall development goals set by the exposure draft of the planning are: In ten years, a relatively complete energy conservation and new energy vehicle industry system will be built in China; China's new energy vehicle population will reach 5 million including 1 million plus moderate and full hybrid passenger vehicles; the production and sales volume of energy saving hybrid vehicles will be at least 3 million; China will play a leading role in energy conservation and in terms of new energy vehicle industry scale.

Shanghai, as one of the pilot cities carrying out China's "Ten Cities, Thousand Vehicles" action plan, has worked out its development plan for new energy industry in 2012. According to the plan, Shanghai's new energy vehicle capacity will reach 100,000 per year with output value at 30 billion yuan, of which passenger vehicles will account for at least 80%. Meanwhile, new energy enterprises engaging in technology transfer and development business will be exempt from business tax. Moreover, local government will increase procurement of new energy vehicles. It determines to improve the proportion of new energy vehicles and new energy buses in government and public procurement of new vehicles to above 30% respectively in 2012.

The next five years will be critical for the transition of new energy vehicle industry from R&D to industrialization. It is also a key period for the strategic development of electric cars. To carry out China's low-carbon economic strategy and new energy strategy and serve local government’s goals of developing advanced manufacturing industry and upgrading automobile industry structure, the Peoples' Government of Jiading District, Shanghai and CBI Events will work together, against the background of the upcoming issuance of the Planning, in organizing 2nd Shanghai International New Energy Vehicle Summit 2011. The conference will invite decision makers from government authorities and enterprises to exchange views on common issues of the industry.
