BELECTRIC starts volume production of energy storage for grid frequency response
BELECTRIC has started volume production of its latest EBU (Energy Buffer Unit) energy storage system, which will be used for a number of frequency regulation projects in the German transmission network during 2016. The company has also received the planning permissions required to install the systems.
BELECTRIC’s EBU energy storage system was qualified for frequency response Germany by the German transmission network operator (TNO) in 2015. The first system was installed at the Alt Daber Solar Power Plant in Brandenburg, and has been successfully offering its services on the primary frequency response market on a weekly basis. The recent decision to start volume production of EBU storage systems is a testament to the successful performance of the EBU at Alt Daber and to BELECTRIC’s strong sales pipeline.
“Over its 10 months of operation, we have proved the Alt Daber battery system’s excellent ability to improve transmission network stability through fast response to frequency fluctuations caused by generators or interconnection trips,” said Bernhard Beck, Executive Chairman of BELECTRIC. “We are confident in the quality of our turnkey storage system, its attractive price, and its ability to provide ancillary grid services throughout transmission networks in Europe and worldwide.”
BELECTRIC developed the EBU system in house. Its advanced lead-acid battery design is optimized for long service life, low cycle costs, high performance and resilience in any climatic conditions. Advanced features include innovative charging and reactivation processes, automatic ventilation cooling and cell-based voltage control.
BELECTRIC´s advanced lead-acid battery technology offers investors and grid operators significantly higher reliability than any other battery technology and an established recycling capability. The EBU is integrated in a standard 40-foot container for cost effective assembly and ease of transportation. Following its initial success in Germany, BELECTRIC is developing its energy storage business in other European countries and in the USA.
