Supplier of wind turbines to farmers, landowners, businesses, education and homeowners wins business award!

Christine Griffiths, partner of Aeolus Power Limited, was awarded the 'Rising Star' award at the prestigious Gloucestershire Women in Business Awards in Cheltenham on 23 March 2010. The award, sponsored by Cheltenham Racecourse, was given to the woman who in the opinions of the judges 'showed outstanding ability within her sector throughout 2009.'

Aeolus Power Limited supplies and installs micro-generation wind turbines for farmers, landowners, businesses, education and homeowners ranging in size from 1.5kW up to 100kW and has customers across the UK and beyond including the Environment Agency in Cornwall and Wales, Meridan Farm in Shropshire, Abbeyford Farm in Dorset, Highfield Farm in Cowbridge, Chew Valley School and Millfield Schools near Bristol and numerous other locations around the country. The company's success has been driven by the dynamism, enthusiasm and entrepreneurial flair of owner Christine Griffiths.

Christine launched Aeolus Power Limited as a result of the nonexistent support, advice and information available about wind turbine installation when she and her husband installed a wind turbine at their farmhouse in 2004. Not surprisingly therefore Aeolus Power offers a 'full service' to its customers, starting with whether their chosen site is suitable for a turbine, through guidelines for a successful planning application, help sourcing grants, support with grid connection right through to installation, commissioning and maintenance. With Christine Griffiths and her team all those wanting help, support and advice around the subject of micro wind energy receive it. Christine's determination to 'spread the word' about wind power and her desire for Aeolus Power to find success as a centre of expertise for micro-wind energy has lead to the company's expansion with purpose built offices in Pilning, IT and marketing expertise, administration and sales support and in December 2009 a business development manager joined the team to help manage the growing number of enquiries.

During 2009 Christine took part in a whirlwind series of successful seminars and lectures around the South West designed to provide information and guidance about the installation of a wind turbine. She spoke at the 'Questions you need answers to' renewable energy consumer seminars in Cirencester, North Petherton, Dorchester, Chippenham and Truro and was invited to speak to an invited audience at the Centre for Energy and the Environment in Exeter and at the National Homebuilding and Renovating Show in Shepton Mallet.

Until 2009 Aeolus Power only supplied and installed Proven Energy's turbines from 3.2kW up to 15kW. The growing demand for renewable wind energy led Christine and Peter to travel to Canada to meet the manufacturers of the world's most powerful 50kW wind turbine – Endurance Wind Power. Aeolus Power was successful in its bid to supply the turbine and in December 2009 become one of only four UK suppliers and installers of this powerful, sought after machine. In January 2010 Evoco Energy’s 1.5kW and 10kW wind turbines were added to the range and from March 2010 the Northwind 100kW formed part of the wind turbine portfolio.

The announcement of the Green Energy Cash Back Scheme/Feed-in Tariff announced on 1st February 2010 has led Christine to adopt a pivotal role on behalf of the early adopters of wind power. She is attempting to persuade government to include these early adopters within the new tariff scheme and Christine sponsored the 'Generating Business from the Feed-in Tariff' conference in Bristol in September 2009 where she put their case before Stephen de Souza of the Department of Energy and Climate Change.

Aeolus Power is a member of the British Wind Energy Association and accredited to the Microgeneration Certification Scheme which enables access any grants offered by the government. The company is also a member of the Renewable Energy Association which sets standards for the provision of renewable and other on-site energy production for non industrial customers.

Christine drives the Aeolus Power business and is passionate about wind power: her willingness to embrace a new industry, to lead the introduction of more efficient wind turbines and to tackle the Department of Energy and Climate Change over unequal benefits identified her as one of the region’s most dynamic business women and a clear 'Rising Star'.
