The Centre For Process Innovation

CPI develops products, processes, services and businesses in the process and manufacturing sectors, and brings jobs and prosperity to the North East of England. It was brought together in April 2008 by the merger of two UK government-backed Centres of Excellence, both formed in 2004 – the Centre for Process Innovation (CPI) on Teesside and the Centre for Nanotechnology, Microtechnology and Photonics (Cenamps) in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Our services

Across its specialist technology areas, CPI delivers a unique portfolio of activities:

Providing services to the global business community in process innovation, consultancy and research, and in the formation and management of development partnerships
Establishing and running publicly funded agencies and projects in emerging technologies
Forming new companies through spin-outs and joint ventures.

In support of our aim of developing CPI into an internationally known centre of excellence for the process industry, we have defined four key technology sectors where we have outstanding expertise.

These sectors are:

Advanced processes
Functional materials
Low carbon energy
Printable electronics

To maintain our international leadership in these vast and challenging fields, we constantly seek to recruit the brightest and best qualified people from the international scientific and industrial communities. Our success in attracting the best candidates from around the world is evidence of our international reputation and the platform for its future growth.

Working so closely with new technologies, we always consider their broader impact on society in terms of a number of factors, such as:

Opportunities
Uncertainties
Ethical footprint.

In this way, we can maximise the opportunities for the innovations we commercialise.
