When you dry out orange/citrus fruit peel until it is blackened, the citrus oils that remain in the peel catch alight easily and can be used as firelighters for general use.If you've got an Aga, just leave the peel in one of the ovens overnight. For everyone else, just put the peel into the oven when you've finished cooking and use the residual heat to blacken the peel - it might take a couple of attempts. The smell of the peel drying is good too!Now's the time to start building up your stockpile for the winter!
