WWF calls for financial incentives for green homes

23 April 2008

WWF calls for financial incentives for green homes A new report from WWF UK has suggested that the government make a range of financial incentives available for homeowners who take steps to improve their household's energy efficiency.

According to the WWF's newsroom, similar initiatives have been introduced with success in other European countries such as Germany.

The paper - entitled How Low: Achieving optimal carbon savings from the UK's existing housing stock - stated that homes account for around 30 per cent of the UK's carbon footprint and implied that a radical shift in government policy could help create a greater impact.

"Our homes offer easy wins in terms of achieving the deep cuts we need in carbon emissions but the UK government could be missing this opportunity by failing to invest in the technologies, policies, and support mechanisms that will guarantee most impact," said Simon McWirther, the campaign manager for WWF UK's One Planet Future scheme.

WWF claims that taking energy efficient measures - such as ensuring proper loft insulation is in place - is an important step for homeowners looking to cut their carbon emissions.ADNFCR-1235-ID-18565249-ADNFCR
