Travellers can take a number of "sensible" steps to reduce their carbon footprint while enjoying their holiday, according to the founder of a low carbon awareness advice firm.John Buckley of Carbon Footprint stated that when travelling to a destination such as France, taking the train has a lower environmental impact than flying. He added that once travellers arrive at their final destination, there are a number of other measures they can take to reduce their environmental impact - such as cycling, exploring by using the public transit system and making sure the air conditioning is turned down in hotel rooms during the daytime."If you do have to hire a car, don't go for the biggest gas-guzzler. Be sensible and go for one that is likely to have lower carbon emissions," Mr Buckley suggested."Use the same common sense that you'd use if you were at home - when you're not in the room, turn the television off," he added.
