A new tidal energy project for the Humber Estuary has been greenlit by the government.Planning permission has been granted for a prototype tidal stream generator that will be tested near Grimsby in the Humber Estuary.The Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform reports that the model has received £878,000 from the government and is capable of generating up to 0.15MW, becoming one of the first tidal power machines to supply energy to the national grid.John Hutton, secretary of state for energy, said: "I have made clear our commitments to renewable energy and to marine technologies."We will be doubling the support available for those technologies under the Renewables Obligation."He added that this type of project could help the UK meet its ambitious green energy targets, wishing the Pulse Tidal system the best of luck in its coming trials.The Humber is an estuary formed at Trent Falls, Faxfleet and forms part of the boundary between the east riding of Yorkshire and north Lincolnshire.
