Computer firm announces green energy plans
03 April 2008
Renewable energy will be purchased to power the Texas headquarters of computer firm Dell, it has been reported.
The company - which is though to be the second-largest manufacturer of personal computers in the world - announced on Wednesday that the 2.1 million-square foot building will operate using renewable power, including electricity generated by landfill gases and windfarms.
Calling green energy a "predictable and stable" source for the firm, Dane Parker, director of global environment, health and safely for Dell, added that by the end of its three-year renewable energy contract, the firm expects prices of gas-generated energy to be higher than that produced by renewable means.
The Dallas News reported around 40 percent of energy provided to the computer company will come from a waste management landfill site in Austin, Texas, while the remaining power will be wind-generated.
Meanwhile, the Calgary Herald reported that the firm also intends to make all its facilities carbon-neutral by the end of the year.
