The Renewable Energy Association has criticised new changes made to the government's Low Carbon Buildings Programme (LCBP), stating that not enough has been done to encourage take-up of the scheme.Despite an extension of the household grants scheme until 2010, Andrew Cooper - the head of onsite renewables at the Renewable Energy Association - has claimed the LCBP needs a complete overhaul in order to be more effective."Making a failing programme fail over a longer period is not a solution," he said. "It is no longer the Low Carbon Buildings Programme, it is the Slow Carbon Buildings Programme."He added that a new scheme which would generate more interest from homeowners is needed and stated a solution may be a move toward the mass-market production of household renewable energy technology.Marketing Week reported that Friends of the Earth criticised the grant extension plans earlier this week, stating that instead, consumer grants should be increased and a system of feed-in tariffs - which would enable customers to sell energy back to the National Grid - may be more beneficial.
