Changes made to Low Carbon Buildings Programme

02 April 2008

Changes made to Low Carbon Buildings Programme Changes made to the Low Carbon Buildings programme will see the £10 million in support funds for UK householders undertaking microgeneration projects remain available until 2010 for new applications.

According to the department for business enterprise and regulatory reform, energy minister Malcolm Wicks stated other changes to the scheme will include an increase in grant caps for charities, public sector groups and schools undertaking a microgeneration project by 50 percent.

"Overhauling the grants scheme makes small scale green energy technology a more affordable option for public organisations, schools and charities," he stated, adding that over 200 schools have applied for grants through the scheme.

"Installing microgeneration in schools can play a part in teaching children and their parents about climate change and the role that the individual can play in tackling this global challenge."

In addition, as of April 6th, planning permission restrictions will be lifted for homeowners looking to install microgeneration technology such as solar panels, as long as these improvements do not impact others.ADNFCR-1235-ID-18534760-ADNFCR
