Reading programme to support low carbon project

02 April 2008

Reading programme to support low carbon project A utility firm has teamed up with an environmental awareness group in support of a sponsored reading programme intended to encourage schoolchildren to reduce their carbon footprint.

ScottishPower and Friends of the Earth Scotland have lent their support to the Read for the Future campaign on April 2nd.

Schoolchildren are urged to "swap Nintendos for Narnia", a press statement claimed, adding that the event may encourage them to reduce their carbon footprint by opting for books rather than video games.

According to Duncan McClaren, chief executive of Friends of the Earth Scotland, young people in Scotland "can play a huge part in the fight against climate change".

He added that as all funds raised through the sponsored reading programme will benefit the environmental group's Green Homes project - which encourages people to reduce carbon emissions and undertake energy efficient home improvements.

ScottishPower also recently embarked on a campaign in partnership with Scottish authorities to tackle the issue of graffiti on its property.ADNFCR-1235-ID-18534771-ADNFCR

Discuss   UK AWARE sponsors do not necessarily need to be from a 'green' industry. They do, however, need to have a genuine concern for environmental matters and conduct business in an appropriate manner.
