Carbon emissions 'can be reduced in many ways'

01 April 2008

Carbon emissions 'can be reduced in many ways' Experts at TreeHugger.com and Planet Green have offered a number of tips for reducing carbon emissions at home, it has been revealed.

In anticipation of Earth Day, which is to take place on April 22nd, the two groups have recommended a number of carbon-cutting measures, including boycotting both paper and plastic shopping bags in favour of a reusable alternative.

The groups also claimed there are a number of ways carbon emissions can be reduced in domestic residences, such as turning down the heat by two degrees in the winter and installing a low-flow showerhead - which may cut carbon emissions by around 350 pounds per year.

In addition, it was suggested that people may wish to wash their clothes in cold water using ecologically-safe detergents for reduced environmental impact. The groups added that hanging clothes to dry rather than using a tumble-dryer could also help cut the "climate impact" of a piece of clothing by up to 50 per cent.

The Earth Day Network claims that millions of people worldwide are expected to take part in environmentally-friendly events later this month in cities such as Barcelona, Buenos Aires, San Francisco and Sydney.

Actors Kevin Bacon and Chevy Chase are supporting the 2008 Earth Day event.ADNFCR-1235-ID-18532500-ADNFCR
