New eco-friendly centre 'may create more jobs'

01 April 2008

New eco-friendly centre 'may create more jobs' The new Eco Innovation Centre in Peterborough may help to create hundreds of jobs in the next few years, Peterborough Today has suggested.

Scheduled to open this week, the centre is said to pave the way for the city's new Green Quarter, which is set to showcase a number of innovative firms developed during Peterborough's £1 billion regeneration scheme.

It is thought the Eco Innovation Centre will lend assistance to environmentally-focused start-up companies, while providing a central point in the region for a number of green organisations.

"This is extremely important for Peterborough and for its ambitions to be the Environment Capital," said John Cox, the chairman of the UK Centre for Economic and Environmental Development.

The group has office space inside the new building, along with the Centre for Sustainable Engineering and Renewables East - a Norwich-based firm planning to open an office in Peterborough.

The city council is currently lending its support to the Making a Difference to Welland campaign, which will run until the end of the week. In addition to addressing issues such as crime and anti-social behaviour, the scheme will also include removing graffiti and a number of diversity celebration activities.ADNFCR-1235-ID-18532504-ADNFCR
