Government grants 'may help carbon-conscious DIY-ers'

26 March 2008

Government grants 'may help carbon-conscious DIY-ers' Carbon-conscious homeowners thinking about embarking on a DIY project to improve their home's energy efficiency this spring may wish to investigate whether they are eligible for a government grant to help fund the repairs.

According to the Telegraph, although the size of grants through schemes such as the Low Carbon Buildings Programme and the Energy Saving Trust may differ according to geographic region, the age of the applicant and a number of other factors, it is a wise idea to see if funding is available for energy-efficient home repairs.

These repairs could include draught-proofing or insulating a home to make it more energy efficient - improvements which may also cut electricity and gas bills in the long-term.

According to the Energy Saving Trust, an energy-efficient home can be a key selling point in the current market, as they are usually cheaper to run.

The group claimed that insulation and glazing are strategies that will help homeowners reduce their carbon emissions and potentially save more than £100 per year on fuel bills. ADNFCR-1235-ID-18523990-ADNFCR
