British Gas 'to help homeowners cut carbon footprint'

26 March 2008

British Gas 'to help homeowners cut carbon footprint' A new range of microgeneration technology is set to be released by British Gas to help private householders reduce their carbon footprint and cut the cost of energy bills.

According to Marketing Week, the new range of clean energy-generation technology will feature wind turbines and solar panels, which may be easier for consumers to install now that strict planning restrictions on domestic microgeneration are set to lift at the beginning of April.

In addition, the utility firm is also working to develop a fuel cell boiler - thought to be on the market by 2010 - which could enable householders to generate electricity using existing heat and power within their home and sell any excess back into the National Grid.

According to the Energy Saving Trust, households can save additional carbon emissions and reduce the cost of heating bills through a number of strategies, including loft insulation and double-glazed windows.ADNFCR-1235-ID-18523882-ADNFCR
