The easing of planning restrictions for small-scale wind turbines in Scotland could make the microgeneration market more accessible for people in urban areas, it has been suggested.According to the Scotsman, green energy technology supplier Wind Save has received around 22,000 inquiries about the renewable technology and claims that this could lead to up to £40 million in sales if the inquiries turn into purchases.The group claims that there is an untapped market for small-scale wind turbines and that the expected lifting of strict planning restrictions could help increase the uptake of low carbon renewable energy generation at home.It is thought restrictions could be lifted as early as June, pending approval from the European Comission.According to the Energy Saving Trust, the UK has access to 40 per cent of Europe's total wind energy and electricity generated by wind produces no waste products or carbon emissions.The Low Carbon Buildings Programme provides grants for the installation of small-scale wind generation technology.
