Scotland will need to increase its investment in renewable electricity in order to deliver on the country's low carbon targets, a trade body has asserted.The Edinburgh Evening News reported that Scottish Renewables stated that Scotland's current renewable energy production was estimated to be around six per cent, compared with seven per cent in Europe and two per cent for the UK as a whole.But the organisation claimed more needs to be done in terms of renewable investment if the company plans to cut its emissions by 80 per cent as set out in its proposed climate change bill."The journey to a low or zero carbon economy by the middle of the century must start now," said Alistar Jamieson, chairman of Scottish Renewables.According to the BBC, Mr Jamieson has applauded the Scottish National Party's increased support of community renewables and microgeneration products by £13.5 million this year and also expressed approval for new provisions that will enable small businesses to take out loans to fund renewable generation projects.
